a.k.a. my previous About Page lah.
Why would you want to know anything about me?

Okay maybe I’ll relent. Here’s the Guardian Starters Q&A, as answered by yours truly:
When were you happiest?
After a good run or a well-played football game; muscles aching, sweat dripping, tired as hell
What is your greatest fear?
Dying without living
What is your earliest memory?
A hodge podge of memories from the Kajang days. Perhaps of my mum not wanting to pick me up because she was pregnant with Angah. That would make me.. about 2 and a half.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Emotion
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Dishonesty.
Aside from a property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?
Plane tickets to Malaysia. Or maybe, my sanity, really.
What is your most treasured possession?
My memories
What would your super power be?
The ability to make things right.
What makes you depressed?
Failure? Or failing that, everything haha.
What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My arms. Or my inability to look smart in anything, even a proper suit.
Who would play you in the film of your life?
Angelina Jolie. So she can come and live with me for a few months for character study.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Sleep. And reading when I’m supposed to be working.
What do you owe your parents?
Genes.
What is the worst job you’ve ever done?
At a photocopy joint post SPM. Not as much as the job itself, but the fact that I couldn’t relate to anyone else there. I was such a loser.
What has been your biggest disappointment?
Not going ahead with my dream to make it to Oxbridge.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Angelina Jolie.
What is the worst thing anyone’s ever said to you?
‘I wish I never had you.’
To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why?
To my parents for the disappointments I will cause.
What does love feel like?
Like love.
Which living person do you most despise, and why?
Despise is a strong word, but I have no time for fake politicians.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
It varies. “Does that make sense?” and “Pergh” are current faves.
If you could edit your past, what would you change?
As a function of who I am today, nothing, really. Things have a way of working out.
When did you last cry, and why?
Early January, 2007.
How do you relax?
With friends, over countless glasses of teh tarik.
Or with a good book.
Whichever.
What is the closest you’ve ever come to death?
Every time I stop breathing.
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Lots of money!
What keeps you awake at night?
At some points, everything. At others, nothing.
What song would you like played at your funeral?
Hehehe.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
That sometimes however good you are, it won’t be enough, but that’s okay.
Where would you most like to be right now?
In a hammock on a beach, with a book, and a football game on the cards later.

Salaam Idlan,
You probably don’t remember me. I was part of Writers Bloc back in 95 and met you in the WB gathering back in 96. We possibly met a few times after that.
I’m currently a keen reader of Malaysia Today and your name was mentioned in connection to the fake universities fiasco. Your name rang a bell and I looked at your site and lo and behold, it’s you.
So what’s up with you these days? Are you in touch with any WB members at all?
looking forward to hearing from you.
Farouk.
