Normally I would consider days like today a write off. At lunchtime I would pack my bags, leave early and do whatever I felt like doing in the pm, in the hope that something can be salvaged during the evening. I think of my days like that – an amalgam of three sections. Am, pm and evening.
By law I am to work a maximum of 48 hours a week – or rather, if I’ve done my 48 hours people can’t say I’ve shirked. This works out to 9 hours and 36 minutes a day over five days, on average. So if I block my days into 5 hour blocks, I can fulfill the 9 hours and 36 minutes by using two of the three blocks for work. And have one block left over for catch up and things like that.
I got in at 9.30am today for a 10am meeting, and by 12pm I am bored out of my wits. I have no energy to play with research ideas, and there’s nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow. Yes, under normal circumstances today would be a write-off. I would high-tail it and watch Invictus at the Odeon or something.
Oh, but for a 4pm tutorial.
Urgh.
Anyone who thinks sticking me with afternoon classes is doing me a favour, please reconsider. I like ‘em nice and early, hard and fast. So that I’ve got the rest of the day to declare as history.
