I think the most damning quote I read on the ‘Cockpitgate’ scandal came from a member of the cavalry whom Lance Corporate Matty Hull served with in Iraq. “Matty died for no real reason except two American pilots cowboying in the sky,” he was quoted as saying to Guardian reporter Audrey Gillan, as details of the cockpit video that showed the mistakes made by two American reservist air pilots which resulted in the death by friendly fire of Matty Hull in March 2003 emerged. The recording has surfaced, more than three years after an inquest into the death denied its very existence. The two pilots involved were cleared of any misconduct and are reported to be back in active duty.

Thanks to the wonders of the web, you too can watch the footage and judge for yourself which is more damning: the cockiness of the pilots, their seemingly lack of remorse or the blatant denial by both the US and the UK defence authorities of its existence.

Having once been subject of the wrath of Mac devotees after ‘not being wholly supportive’ of the iPod, I may well know what Guardian columnist Charlie Brooker will get himself into for writing this: “I hate Macs”. Quite funny, really. Unless you belong to the Church of the Apple. In which case, Brooker probably committed blasphemy.

Sometimes I ask myself whether all this waiting is worth it. Because we both know there is nothing we’re waiting for. On eight days out of seven, I don’t think I even know how to miss you anymore.
