Hijrah Membentuk Perpaduan

Now that the paperwork has been done, and the contract has been signed; I can safely say that I should be able to house myself over the holidays. A quaint Hijrah of sorts. In the snow, no less. Kalau dulu Nabi hijrah di tengah padang pasir, aku pulak hijrah di dalam salji. Not that my hijrah will ever be equal to his, of course.

Here’s to new digs. Goodbye SHG, sorry to be parting under such distressing circumstances. Hello FCH :)

Harapan Akhir Tahun Menuju Tahun Baru

I almost forgot.

Almost

30 Zulhijjah today. New year tommorow. Thank you tweeps and facebookers (and an 8-hour head start for Malaysians!) for reminding me – incessant reading of people’s updates as a measure to help oneself re-fall asleep after waking up at 3am has it’s benefits.

What are my wishes for this new year? A better 1431 insyaAllah, in terms of spiritual awareness. I turn 33 next year. Some things have got to give.

And to end that slightly pensive note, here’s my favourite nephew (sebab nephew aku pun sorang ajer) in his “I tak rela diperlakukan begini” pose…

Kalek muka pasrah tak rela dipakai sedemikian

The T(w)oil(igh)et Saga II: New Home

So the plan was that on the 12th, we’d all be at home – or rather, I’d be at home not watching the X Factor while Ida had to sit and endure her company Chrimbo party while wishing she could be cheering on Olly Murs. But the toilet saga has gotten the better of us.

ida is still at her company Chrimbo party, wishing she could be at home cheering on Olly Murs. In fact, the Olly brigade are housed in Colchester this weekend – they’ve stuck everyone in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Theatre on campus. I, however, am in a hotel room – not the same one, but in the same hotel – flicking between the X-Factor, Strictly Come Dancing and NCIS, for the lack of anything else to do.

The house needs major repair, so says the loss adjusters. 3 months worth, at least. I have to move out. There is a limited amount of property in suitable locations for me to rent, and the one I wanted was rented out to someone else (it was also listed with another agent). Me and my now-damaged-tooth (which was all fine until last Tuesday when I repaired a loose filling that had become dislodged, only for the doctor to rush to the procedure and saying, “Ooh, we’ve got 15 minutes huh”, and left me with such a bad infection one half of my face swelled up, which meant a 5am rush to A&E where I was given two different pain killers and two mega antibiotics) could quite well be homeless over the Christmas holid ays; that or be stuck at a property that is way too expensive for my budget with no reasonable public transport access to university.

But today, I saw a rainbow.

Rainbow over Colchester
