I’ve succumbed to the temptation that is the free one month’s DVD rental offers going round.. and currently have access to the Blockbuster collection.
Quick.. suggestions, please, people. What should I watch?
Pointers: I have watched everything with Angelina Jolie in it, Arnold Schwartze-whatever turns me off as does Jean Claude be Damned, and no horror, I sleep alone.
(And no porn please, we’re erm.. students).
Life must have been hard for Duncan* MacLeod. He had to watch everyone he ever loved go before him. What’s the point of being immortal if nothing you want to stay with you forever, is immortal too?
I think Superman was a very lonely person, too. All those secrets, all those lies, all that longing; and yet not being able to do much about it. And that when it came to love, none of his superpowers could really help him. And what about the human need to connect, to share, to need and be needed?
Then again, Superman wasn’t human.

The same character who caused me to blow my top during tutorials last Thursday, cheekily requested a reference letter from me today for a special program. Said student also had the audacity to end the letter with the phrase: “Please make it a good one!!!!” (yes, complete with exclamation marks).
First time I’ve been thankful about the directive for us tutors not to write references for students.
Sheesh. Enough to turn a lecturer-person-thing into a tweed jacket type.
